Beyond the Glass
My work reflects an appreciation of both ancient and contemporary glass and the excitement of exploring ways of enhancing and revealing the beauty of glass. I find glass the perfect medium to convey atmosphere and capture ephemeral effects - from shifting mists and moonlight on snow to the gleam of a meandering river.
Working mainly with "antique" glass, so called because of the subtle patterns and flow of translucent colours within it, I use traditional stained glass paint to develop a setting or effect which is suggested to me by the colours of the glass itself. I also layer pieces of glass to add an evocative extra dimension to painted and unpainted works.
The range of glass techniques available allows any size of project to be realised. My work can be smaller than a hand or as large as a window.

I enjoy working on commissioned designs which encapsulate messages, stories, memories and passions, creating unique tributes in glowing colours which will never fade.

John Skelton and his Legacy, Skelton Workshops, Artelium Tasting Barn, Streat, BN6 8SA, 8th July - 5th August 2023

A selection of stained glass paintings created in response to John Skelton's sculpture will be displayed alongside a wide range of work from the Skelton Workshops inspired by John Skelton who spent 50 years working in Sussex. His lettering, drawings and sculpture are an intrinsic part of this Centenary exhibition.
Journeys, Holy Trinity Church, Rotherhithe, SE16 5HF, 16-18 June 2023
In late 2021 a sheet of aqua, streaky hand-made glass was cut into six equal pieces. Lots were drawn to allocate the pieces which were given to: Jonathan Cooke, Catrin Davies, Nicola Kantorowicz, Elizabeth Lamont, Rachel Phillips and Christian Ryan. The six new works which have been created in response to the glorious glass were brought together and seen for the first time at Rotherhithe in a unique collaboration.

Horsham Art Exhibition, Horsham Museum & Gallery, RH12 1HE, 7 April - 1 July 2023
Showcasing the work of ten artists - featuring local views , dramatic coastlines, abstract and illustrative works, the pieces on show range from paintings and multi-media works to stained glass paintings and astronomical photographic prints.
Journeys/Teithiau 18th May to 25 June 2021, The Stained Glass Museum, Ely, Cambridgeshire
The exhibition at the Stained Glass Museum then transferred to St Mary's Church, Barnard Castle, Yorkshire 12 – 23 July 2021. Journeys/Teithiau was originally launched as a virtual exhibition. Elizabeth is one of the six contributing stained glass artists. Rich in variations on the theme of journeys, the collection represents a wide range of glass techniques seldom displayed together.

13th March – 29th August 2020 Innovative Forms. The Lettering of John Skelton, the Lettering Arts Centre, Snape Maltings, Suffolk.
From a flowing glass interpretation of the Brighton Dolphin devised by Eric Gill and John Skelton to hands playing a lyre high in a tree, Elizabeth developed five pieces of painted stained glass for this exhibition which included stone and wood carving, heraldry , calligraphy and metalwork . Some of the glass collection Elizabeth created for Innovative Forms can be seen again in the John Skelton and his Legacy exhibition in July 2023, details above.
